Use the units on your US product label
Measure rooms in feet and convert inches to a fraction of a foot. For paint, use square feet per US gallon. For boxed flooring, copy the square-foot coverage per carton. These calculators do not convert imperial gallons or metric product coverage.
Bring local prices into your estimate
The same quantity calculation works across the United States, but the budget should use prices for your location. Get a quote from a supplier that serves your ZIP code, then enter its material price. If flooring is priced per carton, divide that price by carton coverage before entering the price per square foot.
Compare quotes with the same scope
Ask each installer to specify room area, the material and finish, demolition, surface preparation, installation, trim, cleanup and delivery. Separate the product cost from labor. A low unit price may exclude work that another quote includes.
- Paint: record the brand, product, color, sheen, coverage and coat count.
- Flooring: record the product code, carton coverage, layout, waste allowance and underlayment requirements.
- Budget: record whether delivery, disposal and tax are included in the supplier or installer quote.
What these tools can estimate locally
You can personalize the material budget with your local prices. The site does not collect your ZIP code, retrieve live retailer inventory or supply city-level contractor rates. Use your supplier’s final total for location-dependent charges.
US project planning FAQs
Does my state change how many gallons or boxes I need?
The formulas depend on measured area, product coverage and allowance, rather than state boundaries. Surface condition and your selected product can change the inputs.
Can I get a local contractor quote here?
No. Room & Roll provides self-service material estimates. Obtain a contractor quote directly and compare its scope with your measurements and material list.
